What do you get for a friend who has everything they need but you know loves a quiet GnT on a Sunday afternoon? Or any time of day, really. Here are a few suggestions, if you are in need of inspiration:
In exciting news for gin-lovers, distilleries are opening all around Australia. So encourage your gin-drinking friend to try local and get your hands on some The West Winds, made in Margaret River or Four Pillars, established only in 2013 – delicious tipples you can drink straight. Botanic Australis Gin has the most incredible list of local Australian ingredients. Read our recent tasting of Botanic Australis.
Or perhaps they can do it themselves, with a home made gin kit.
Gin is nothing without good tonic. After all, your afternoon GnT is 30% G and 70% T, so your gin lover will probably appreciate a good tonic that doesn’t spoil their tipple. Capi is Australian made and free of a lot of chemicals that are put into many effervescent drinks. Fever-Tree is also a high-quality tonic worth seeking out for your top-notch gins.
How about some basic preparation tools:
- A good quality lemon squeezer.
- Enormous ice-cube molds. so their drink stays cold but doesn’t dilute. Also perfect if there is a whisky drinker in the house.
- An official measuring tool. Unless you’re like me and prefer to tip the bottle with generosity.
Finally, you could give them a ticket to a gin tasting at John Mills Himself. What a great way to try gins they may not have heard of before and learn a little about the distilling and fine tasting of gin. Check out their facebook page for updates on upcoming events.
